Tropical Ravine

Conservation

View Gallery

The Victorian Tropical Ravine houses a collection of plants in Temperate and Tropical zones, within the setting of a ravine built into the sloping hillside.  The restoration involved major structural and landscaping works throughout the building and its environs, including stabilising the existing superstructure, removing redundant installations and reconstructing interior walkways, paths and planters. Some plants are Listed and several mature trees were maintained in–situ within temporary protective enclosures complete with their micro–climate. The project provides increased public accessibility, interpretation and education facilities. Purcell provided a Conservation Management Plan and the Eden Project specialist horticultural advice.
