We were initially appointed by the church to explore ways in which the existing Grade B listed building could provide a welcoming, contemporary aesthetic with greater flexibility. This was achieved through a new double height foyer with glazed rear wall, a flexible layout through the replacement of pews with comfortable seating, and the creation of a configurable performance area with integrated AV. A further appointment was for a new church welcome centre offering. Due to the sensitive setting, liaison with Historic Buildings and Planning Service was essential at an early stage. The design response was to place an elegant, stone clad, single storey pavilion to the side of the listed church, providing an example of appropriate modernist design in a conservation setting.

Inspired by the late Derek Bingham, a bronze statue by Ross Wilson has been installed in front of the Centre, commemorating the 12 year old Amy Carmichael.   Amy was a lifelong missionary to India who was born nearby in Millisle.
