We were tasked with creating new, welcoming, gathering spaces for the congregation and surrounding community. The design was conceived as a linear welcome pavilion with a shallow roof set parallel to the church and bell tower. The pavilion is offset to one side affording views of the existing church roof form and the 13th century motte beyond. The foyer leads visitors up to the level of the existing church and new multi functional welcome space which is used for gathering before and after services, informal evening services, parents and toddlers, wedding receptions, small groups, conferences and fellowship meals. A central spine between the old and new allows views to mature trees and the historic church.
