The design is the result of a careful response to the context of the local streetscape and the client’s needs. The congregation moved from a nearby Victorian building they had previously occupied for 150 years to be more central within the community. The new design had to balance all the demands of contemporary church life, including transformations in worship and social engagement.  The new sanctuary seeks to gather the congregation within a light filled space conducive to worship and reflection. It retains elements of the original church including the reconfiguration and renovation of the original stained glass windows and organ pipes. In depth consideration was given to material choice and detailing, including the design of a new suite of sacramental furniture in native burr elm and Douglas fir trusses whose timber was sourced from Tollymore Forest.
